Update on QLD borders to be announced this week! YEY!

Australia .. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will be armed with health advice this week about when it is safe to open up the state's borders.

Australia ..  Dozens of results are expected on Monday after a major testing effort sparked by a Melbourne fruit picker who travelled to Queensland for work before national cabinet is set to meet on Friday to discuss how well each state is managing rates of infection.

That is when the Premier will be able to make a decision about what is happening with borders, Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said.

Australia ..  Remember borders are a two-way exchange. We would need to open our borders but the other states would also need to open their borders.

Queensland's borders have been closed since March 25 and remain locked down to recreational travellers on health advice.

Ms Palaszczuk wanted to keep borders closed until Victoria and New South Wales went 28 days without recording a new coronavirus case but the benchmark may be rolled back at national cabinet.

Australia ..  The state government's roadmap to easing restrictions indicates interstate travel, part of stage three, could be up and running in July but that could come sooner if new cases numbers remain low.

Dr Young said while the initial plan was to wait four weeks between between stages of restrictions easing, this could be fast-tracked if there were no significant outbreaks after a fortnight.

On May 31, Ms Palaszczuk ordered stage two restrictions be brought forward by two weeks because virus cases stayed low after earlier lock downs were eased.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday urged the Premier to stick to the July date.

Australia ..  When we set out the three-stop process together, July was when interstate travel was supposed to be up and running again,  he told 2GB radio.

Australia ..   If they leave it to announcing it until July, people who might book a holiday for July will have already booked it somewhere else.

Queensland residents are now able to travel within the state and Ms Palaszczuk maintains the borders will "definitely" be shut for the month of June.

More than 250 tests, including 147 at a pop-up clinic set up at farmworker accommodation, have been conducted after a Melbourne fruit picker flew to Brisbane and then onto Bundaberg before testing positive.

Authorities have appealed for anyone who flew on Virgin flights VA313 from Melbourne to Brisbane on June 1 or VA2905 from Brisbane to Bundaberg on June 2 to contact13 43 25 84 because the man in his 20s was infectious while flying.

As of Sunday, 57 negative results had been returned, including for the 15 people he associated with in Brisbane.

Dr Young said the remaining results would come in over the next 24 hours.

Australia ..  These are early days and we have much more work to do before we can be confident there has been no further transmission,  Dr Young said.
